Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Health Services and the Associate Vice President of Student Health & Counseling Services, the RN III Accreditation Coordinator will work with the SHCS team to facilitate and provide guidance to ensure the organization is at survey-ready status. The coordinator will review and evaluate current policies and procedures, collect operational and documentation support to update SHCS processes. Identify potential accreditation improvement for standards, and complete standard assessments for all core and applicable adjunct chapters of the AAAHC Handbook for Ambulatory Healthcare.

The RN III will be responsible to provide responsive, sound, and accurate medical triage and assessment of patients. Medical triage in person and/or by telehealth. Additional responsibilities include the ability to provide leadership, clinical direction, and mentoring of Medical Assistants and/or Clinical Assistants, perform nursing procedures common to Ambulatory and Urgent Care as directed by medical providers, clinical protocols not limited to medication administration, IV insertions, audiometry, spirometry. Knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and clinical equipment use. Familiarity with infection control principles and practices.

Department Information

Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) promote lifetime wellness through collaboration, education and innovation; and embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services, and mental health, services to the Sacramento State campus community. SHCS is committed to providing quality care and service delivery and is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Minimum Qualifications


Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; medical supplies and equipment used in nursing practice; and the uses and effects of medications and narcotics and infection control practices. Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing and the scope of practice limitations of clinic support staff. Broader and specialized nursing knowledge that supports the performance of specialized nursing clinics, broader knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocol. Working knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques; more comprehensive understanding of nursing programs and specialties.

Abilities:

Ability to effectively apply specialized nursing knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques and skills in performing nursing duties; accurately observe and record symptoms, behaviors, and reactions to treatments in order to make a nursing diagnosis; respond with therapy to treatment reactions; use applicable health center automated systems to perform duties and maintain records and prepare reports; gain the cooperation of patients; analyze emergency situations and take prompt action; maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds. Ability to provide effective work direction; plan and organize the work of others; assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a nursing program which may include one or more nursing specialties or clinics.

Education & Experience:

Completion of a professional nursing program in an approved school of nursing or by additional preparation as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Three years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience which as provided evidence of the ability to perform nursing duties as described above and has included administrative and lead responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

License & Certifications:

Possess and maintain a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California and American Heart Association or Red Cross certification in CPR/AED.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  2. Current/Valid license in Nursing in the State of California
  3. Certification in CPR/AED.
  4. Knowledge of HIPAA and state confidentiality laws.
  5. Knowledge and ability to interpret ambulatory care setting standards for AAAHC accreditation requirements.
  6. Ability to provide guidance in support of accreditation preparation and ongoing compliance.
  7. Ability to collect, review and upload required documentation in support of accreditation readiness activities.
  8. High level working knowledge of clinical operations.
  9. Experience in assessing patients in urgent care and primary care.
  10. Experience in administering and interpreting Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived laboratory tests under nursing protocols including but not limited to: Urinalysis, pregnancy testing, rapid strep, mono spot, hematocrit, etc.
  11. Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rules and California state laws regulating privacy and confidentiality of health information.
  12. Experience working with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  13. Knowledge and commitment to preventative health care and wellness.
  14. Multicultural competency in the delivery of services.
  15. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  16. Attention to detail with a focus on quality.
  17. Ability to multitask with effective time management.
  18. Work well independently with minimal supervision.
  19. Microsoft Office Proficient (i.e., WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Prior experience with AAAHC Ambulatory Accreditation
  2. Experience working in Ambulatory Care
  3. Two years' experience in provision of nursing care in the primary and urgent care environment
  4. Experience in nursing triage in an acute/urgent care environment
  5. Experience in reproductive healthcare
  6. Supervisory experience
  7. Experience in a college/university setting.
  8. Experience in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
