Position Summary

The Administrative Support Coordinator I (ASC) provides general clerical and administrative support to the Department Chair, department committees, the AA/S, degree programs and the faculty. Primary responsibilities include support for Unit 11, Lecturer RTP, TESOL, Timekeeping, Departmental events and awards, and general office purchasing.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,064.00 - $5,148.00 per month

Hiring Range: $3,064 - $3,400 per month

Recruitment Type: Regular (Probationary)

Time Base: Full-Time

Work Hours: M-F 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Department Information

The English department of California State University, Sacramento, is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and support staff whose primary mission is to promote learning in composition, creative writing, English education, linguistics, literature, and the teaching of English as a second language.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Required Qualifications
  1. Experience in the coordination of the clerical and administrative support functions for an academic, special program or administrative office.
  2. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects with frequent interruption.
  3. Experience using standard office support technology systems and software packages i.e. computer, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), laser printer, fax machine, Risograph copier, Xerox machine, scanner, multi-line phone.
  4. Demonstrated ability to understand and operate in a wide variety of organization structures and committees.
  5. Demonstrated ability to handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
  6. Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  7. Experience with preparing, cataloguing, and maintaining confidential files and documents.
  8. Ability to understand and apply detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  9. Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, and make simple projections.
  10. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience handling enrollments i.e. adds & drops.
  • Experience with current Sacramento State computer resources and operating systems i.e. Windows, CMS (Peoplesoft), Concur, Cognos.
  • Experience processing unit 11 paperwork.
  • Experience processing travel claims.
