Reporting to the Vice President for Equity & Social Justice, the Associate Vice President for Access & Equity is the designated College official with responsibility for monitoring and advancing the College's compliance with College policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws around accessibility and non-discrimination, including Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This individual will manage the responses to reported incidents of identity-based bias, including, race, creed, color, religion or religious creed, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, gender or sex (including pregnancy), sexual preference, gender identity or expression, age, disability or handicap, genetics or status as a veteran or any other category protected by law.
The Associate Vice President monitors the development and implementation of college-wide education, training, and outreach related to Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act, and the Campus SaVE Act, and oversees the College's investigation and resolution of complaints related to the areas above.
They will also be responsible for the administration of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Title IX and the Clery Act, as well as the accuracy of institutional data and required reports.
In addition, the Associate Vice President and any designees will partner with staff in Student Accessibility Services to provide education to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Associate Vice President and accompanying members of the team will play a key role in the College's efforts to provide and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members of the Emerson Community. They will interact and collaborate with members of the Social Justice Center, Campus Life, and Enrollment Management divisions in various ways and will work to educate the campus community on bias response, building relationships that serve as the foundation for cooperation and open dialogue with and among students, faculty, and staff.
An important requirement of this job includes an in-person presence on campus in Boston on a daily basis to meet with community members, conduct and/or oversee training, and participate in the resolution of complaints.
Possibility of required travel to Emerson-based programs and Emerson facilities, including in Los Angeles and the Netherlands.

Your Manager: Vice President for Equity & Social Justice
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide advice to the college on various matters, including
equal opportunity, non-discrimination, Title IX, ADA and
accessibility services, and risk management.
- Interprets, manages, and ensures the college's compliance with
all federal, state, local laws, regulations, as well as industry
best practices.
- Review, create and implement policy and procedure to ensure
compliance and reduce risk exposure.
- Ensure Clery Act reporting compliance.
- Design, develop, and lead compliance and Title IX training and
oversee related resources and processes.
- Serve as the college's Title IX Coordinator, providing
leadership for related compliance initiatives, investigations,
reporting, and related resources.
- Provide oversight, monitoring, and support to ensure responses
and investigations are timely, thorough, and impartial, providing
for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints.
- Ensure Title IX policies and processes are fully compliant at
all times to provide for prompt and equitable resolution of
complaints and inquiries.
- Train, counsel, and support deputy coordinators, investigators,
advisors, review and appeals boards, and related support
resources.
- Facilitate coordination/collaboration with and among College
offices regarding topics such as discrimination, harassment, and
sexual misconduct issues; including, but not limited to internal
stakeholders such as Campus Life, Office of Human Resources and
Equal Opportunity, General Counsel, Office of Community Standards
and Student Conduct, Healing and Advocacy Collective, Student
Accessibility Services and Campus Police.
Your Other Responsibilities:
- Serve as an internal resource and consultant, working
collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a sensitive context
often complicated by the presence of competing perspectives or
interests.
- Develop and maintain a compliance matrix and repository of
compliance resources.
- Perform a variety of administrative and other duties as
assigned.
Your Qualifications:
- A master's degree in a relevant discipline or a Juris Doctorate
from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and
state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and
regulations, including Title IX and other applicable laws and
regulations.
- Understanding of how recent developments regarding sexual
misconduct on campus are impacting campuses across the
country.
- Knowledge of the residential college experience and a passion
to work within a highly consultative campus culture.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, identify opportunities,
and take action to build effective cross-departmental and
cross-divisional relationships.
- Significant previous experience overseeing and conducting
complaint investigations and grievances including experience
coordinating Title IX and Clery Act compliance efforts.
- A minimum of five years of experience in campus safety,
educational compliance, higher education administration, or
equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to assess the effectiveness of compliance
activities and prepare and present detailed reports.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and proven effectiveness
in working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to lead, manage, and inspire teams
- Strong organizational, planning, analytical, and
problem-solving skills, and excellent oral and written
communications skills and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information,
exercise sound, and objective judgment, and work
independently.
- Ability to provide a high level of professional interaction
with all levels of stakeholders throughout the Emerson
Community.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
Hiring Range: $151,000.00 - $159,300.00
