Assistant Director, Employer Relations ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. POSITION SUMMARY: As a direct report of the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Experiential Programs, the Assistant Director Employer Relations will support the development and management of employer relationships and will cultivate internship and job opportunities for Pomona College students and alumni. The Assistant Director will have an in-depth understanding and experience in employer relations and college recruiting, knowledge of recruitment trends, and the ability to work on projects independently and function competently in a team environment. This position oversees the planning and logistics of employer events, including on-campus career fairs/meetups. They are also responsible for managing the recruiting calendar and developing and executing a marketing plan for employer events. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with CDO colleagues to create statistical reports to provide benchmarking data related to employer activity. The Assistant Director also plans/implements programs to facilitate student learning in the area of career and job readiness, including group and individual career/internship advising, and job search strategies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Employer Relations and Experiential Programs, the Assistant Director for Employer Relations performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Employer Relations & Job Development- Ensures a steady flow of internship and career opportunities locally, regionally, and nationally by developing relationships with businesses and networking.
- Leverages Pomona College contacts from various sources including staff, faculty, student groups, advancement, and the Office of Alumni & Family Engagement and all other potential sources for the purpose of developing leads to results in job opportunities; maintains CRM database of employer contacts and profiles.
- Oversee Career Development Office’s role in promoting campus employment and work/study opportunities; serve on campus committee with Human Resources and Office of Financial Aid to deliver campus employment program.
- Constructs policies for employer participation in recruiting program. Policies include: acceptable methods of employer outreach/marketing and diversity recruiting efforts, adherence to office procedures and deadlines, interviewing protocols, offer/accept lead times and incentives, testing practices, ethical and professional conduct.
- Represent Pomona College at consortia employer relations committee meetings, including 7C, Liberal Arts Career Network (LACN), and Career & Internship Connections (CIC)
- Manage the design and delivery of programs, services, and major events relating to employer recruitment including career fairs, workshops, on campus recruiting and other career-related events, as needed, for job development and relationship management.
- Reviews and approves all Handshake job postings targeted to Pomona students/alumni
- Organizes and sets the annual recruiting calendar, including all deadlines and processes. Schedules dates for employer information sessions, interviews, and fairs.
- Serves on CDO Communications Committee and oversees all communications to students and employers regarding recruitment activities. Designs and develops marketing materials, including recruiting-related website documentation. Composes and strategizes the content and timing of a large volume of communications to students.
- Surveys employers on quality of recruiting services provided, to improve recruiting plan
- Serve as a CDO Handshake (career services manager) Superuser responsible for training employers and troubleshooting issues raised by employers
- Establishes guidelines for student participation in recruiting program. Enforces student adherence to recruiting deadlines, procedures, and schedules. Advises students on negotiation of offers, overall ethical/professional conduct, résumé/cover letter writing, informational interviewing, interview preparation, time management, and interview cancellations. Handles student feedback on questionable employer behavior or activities.
- Provide and administer in-person and on-line delivery of individual career development advising and career development workshops covering topics such as résumé/cover letter writing, job search techniques, interviewing, salary negotiation, and job market information.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned academic departments and campus offices; collaborate with CDO colleagues to deliver programming for assigned career teams
- Organize and facilitate industry treks to enhance student understanding and exposure to the workplace.
