Job Description:
The Director of Presidential Scholars Program provides leadership, inquiry support, and academic guidance to students in the Presidential Scholars program. This position oversees the selection of recipients and curriculum development as well as develops partnerships to support Presidential Scholar students transitioning to college, oversees progress in academic disciplines, and guides students transitioning to upper-division colleges and universities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Develops curriculum and coordinates the co-curricular
activities for Presidential Scholars at all MDC campuses
•Oversees scholarship funding, including selecting eligible
candidates and determining recipient scholarship status
•Recruits students, visits high schools, and maintains close ties
with administrators, counselors and teachers
•Maximizes visibility in local communities to attract scholar
students
•Identifies courses that need to be offered and when to offer them
by conducting research
•Oversees the creation of academic enrichment activities such as
guest lectures, field trips, and service learning projects
•Coordinates with Honors College to identify inclusion courses for
Presidential Scholars
•Personalizes advisement and career planning for each student
nurturing and motivating students to transfer opportunities within
MDC or with other universities/colleges
Minimum Requirements:
•Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in
Higher Education or related field and three (3) years of related
experience; or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited
institution in Higher Education or related field and seven (7)
years of experience
•Knowledge of recruitment and enrollment trends
•Knowledge of majors and requirements for transferring to all
colleges and universities
•Knowledge of advisement services, testing area, financial aid,
student activities, careercenter and the registration office,
community involvement and civic literacy
•Knowledge of curriculum practices and trends
