Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Learning and Development manages and leads the activities for professional development efforts and tracking of other large-scale Learning and Development initiatives and projects. May include varied and constantly evolving projects to ensure department goals and objectives are well defined and accomplished within specified time frames. These projects are generally focused on increasing employee engagement and more specifically addressing organizational culture.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage projects to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives
  2. Analyze project goals, plans schedule of deadlines for project completion and develops action plan and processes for project completion from inception to evaluation
  3. Is a team player, working within a paradigm of willingness to take responsibility for an overall project even when project success requires contribution from other stakeholders
  4. Coordinate efforts between various stakeholders; coordinates project activities; assigns tasks and provides guidance to those responsible for specific functions or phases of projects
  5. Develop, recommend and implement necessary improvements and changes to projects in order to ensure project success
  6. Train others on process improvement methods and completed project deliverables
  7. Confer with staff to explain project and individual responsibilities for functions and phases of projects
  8. Coordinate meetings, communications and other operations
  9. Take direction and respond to constructive criticism and actively contribute to process improvement efforts
  10. Oversees and manages the budget in designated area; implements budget controls and performs needs assessments for development of annual budgeting recommendations
  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to allocate accountability and task responsibility and follow through
  • Ability to identify resource and competency needs, set and communicate individual/team responsibilities
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Ability to define project requirements, scoping of project, planning activities, risk and issue management, measure project progress, determine corrective actions to ensure successful project implementation
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two years successful management of programs or projects from inception to completion
  • Previous experience leading a team of peers or volunteers to accomplish shared work (non-supervisory role)
Salary

Hiring salary range is $52,430 - $60,295

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
