The LSC-Tomball Health Science Building is a 60,000-square-feet three-story complex that houses the Surgical Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Nursing and Pharmacy Technology programs. The facility provides numerous classrooms, a medical library, simulation labs, an operating room, a clean room, a sterile room and additional educational resources.

Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Coordinator II will be responsible for creat ing and manag ing a multidimensional educational link between the nursing lectures and the nursing laboratory/practical experience that will enable students to connect the rationale and theory for the skills they learn in the clinical setting. P rovide a high level of coordination of the program/functions across multiple nursing levels and other health occupations programs and direct the daily operations of the science teaching labs including creating laboratory schedules, maintaining inventory and quality assurance of lab items, tracking department budgets, directing and monitoring laboratory safety protocols, and hiring / training / supervising lab assistants .

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create nursing laboratory schedules to include scheduled labs, remediation labs, health occupation labs, etc. and maintain communication with instructors & faculty regarding lab assignments and nursing lab utilization & set-ups
  • Assist with utilization of high fidelity simulators during sim lab and troubleshoot high fidelity simulators
  • Keep current with new technologies and safety regulations, direct and monitor laboratory safety protocols, conduct risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical environment of the nursing lab, and assist in maintaining compliance of all regulatory agencies of the college and nursing programs
  • Maintain an accurate inventory and quality assurance of lab items, including media, videos, software, models, mannequins, equipment, and learning lab materials
  • Orient students and faculty to the nursing lab and provide mentoring to students in Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Transition Nursing Program and Vocational Nurse (VN) Nursing Programs.
  • Assist with lab instruction as required by specific college nursing programs and within the guidelines of the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Conduct annual District Wide Director Lab Coordinator Committee meetings; prepare all the paper work, communicate with the vendor and Follett Bookstore Managers, Nursing Directors and Nursing Lab Coordinators, and distribute minutes including lab pack ordering schedule
  • Attend and participate in the ADN Pinning Ceremony and serve as the Emergency Response Team Member
  • Collaborate on grant proposals to obtain additional funding to enhance nursing programs
  • Assist with department/division budget preparation, track expenditures, monitor expenses versus budgets, and assure that discrepancies are resolved
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage various lab tours, events, conferences, and committees
  • Direct and monitor laboratory safety protocols such as OSHA Hazard Communication, OSHA Laboratory Standard, Tier II Chemical Reporting, Right to Know Stations (SDS), and ensure proper disposal of bio-hazardous materials
  • Analyze and improve procedures/practices to ensure learning environment enhance students' intellectual and skills development
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

    • Ability to work independently without close supervision, broad knowledge of the nursing sciences, successful handling of day-to-day operations of the nursing lab

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS :
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

    • Work in a safe and secure work/lab environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate's Degree and at least 3 ye ars of related work experience
    • Registered Nurse (RN) with current license in Texas
    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $43,070-$49,530

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
