Job Summary:

Join the fast-paced and exciting world of emergency veterinary medicine! This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the 24/7 needs of the Critical Care Unit and Emergency Services of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The position requires the individual to make independent and responsible decisions which may affect the outcome/quality of animal life. Make a real difference in patients' and their owners' lives! Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Oversees/guides workflow in area focusing on special patient needs.
2) Anticipates needs of clinicians in procedures and primary care.
3) Participates in case overviews to better access and direct technical patient support.
4) Develops knowledge and responsibility in area of specialization to include maintenance of special equipment, instructing
others in use and care, assisting clinician/students in procedures.
5) Contributes to team management care utilized in Critical Care Unit and Emergency Services.

Qualifications:

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 3 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Preferred
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
or eligible to obtain within 12 months

Additional Information:

$1.80/hour night and $1.80/hour weekend differential applicable on top of the base pay.

This position is also eligible for a $3.00/hour ECC shift differential in addition to the night and weekend differentials.

Will include holiday, weekend, and on-call shifts as required by the unit and hospital.

Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid quarterly over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians).

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior veterinary tech experience.
