Barnard College, one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges, is seeking an individual with exceptional financial, strategic and interpersonal capabilities to join the Provost’s team as Executive Vice Provost (EVP). The EVP will serve as a strategic partner to the Provost and when necessary, drive decisions on behalf of the Provost and office. The EVP has leadership responsibility for developing and managing the Academic Division’s instructional, operating, and capital budgets and for planning and executing the strategic allocation of academic endowment and gift funds. Reporting directly to the Provost and Dean of Faculty, the Executive Vice Provost is a member of the President's Council and the Provost’s senior staff. The EVP will be expected to accurately and effectively address faculty concerns and academic planning proactively and strategically while advancing the College’s academic mission and will have an opportunity to help shape the College’s academic priorities and impact the long-term trajectory and continued excellence of the institution.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidates will have strong analytical skills and the proven ability to plan, develop and execute creative approaches to complex financial issues and data analysis. An MBA and/or master’s degree is preferred along with experience with budget development, financial management, and account oversight. The successful candidate will have experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting including familiarity with nonprofit financial systems, and knowledge of gift and grant accounting, and participating in contract negotiations. Candidates will have demonstrated experience cultivating and developing relationships with diverse constituents and a record of a collaborative leadership style toward strategic decision-making.

 

In addition, the Executive Vice Provost will possess the following abilities, attributes, and experiences:

 

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and math skills;
  • A commitment to a customer service, data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving;
  • Facility for anticipating and providing information and analysis needed to support executive decisions;
  • Excellent computer skills, including the development of complex spreadsheets (Excel), use of relational databases (Access);
  • Experience making detail-oriented, informed decisions, and extracting data from proprietary ERP systems (Datatel or similar);
  • A record of success in attracting, developing, and mentoring a team of professionals; and
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion and an ability to connect with others and cultivate relationships based on mutual trust and respect and collegiality
  • Degree Requirements: Advanced Degree such as MBA or PhD/Masters in related field preferred; 15 years plus experience in Higher Education required.
