Job Summary:

The applicant will commit time to the clinical activities of the hospital and school including the clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and residents, continuing education programs, and to basic science or clinical research that advances academic clinical practice. The successful candidate will participate in the clinical activities of the hospital including patient care, instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents. Availability and willingness to consult and communicate with referring veterinarians and clients is vitally important. Approximately 750 dermatology patients are evaluated annually. The current caseload in the Small Animal Clinic is comprised of approximately 80% dogs and 20% cats. The Dermatology Service also provides services on a consultation basis for a small number of horses, farm animals, and exotic species. The distribution of time in clinical service, non-clinical teaching, research and other service is expected to be approximately 40%, 25%, 25%, 10%, respectively.

The Department of Medical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a clinical-track, full-time, 12-month position within the Dermatology Service at the Small Animal Clinic of our teaching hospital, UW Veterinary Care. The successful candidate will join two other veterinary dermatologists providing clinical service within the Small Animal Hospital on the UW-Madison campus. UW Veterinary Care is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board certified experts in Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery, Exotic Animal Medicine, Dentistry/Oral Surgery, and Emergency and Critical Care. Excellent support services are available in Clinical Pathology, Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Anesthesiology.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin. Board certification or Board eligibility is required in the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, European College of Veterinary Dermatology, Asian College of Veterinary Dermatology, or Australian College of Veterinary Dermatology. Preference will be given to those candidates whose interests include clinical and/or basic science research, both of which are encouraged within our Clinical Track. Aptitude and/or experience in clinical instruction of veterinary students, interns, and residents is also expected.

This position has a strong emphasis on academic clinical practice and teaching. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or diverse interns, residents and students is also preferred.

Distribution of effort in the section and the Department will be determined in accordance with service needs, academic priorities and the successful candidates expertise and academic goals in veterinary dermatology. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all sections of the hospital and department. Participation in classroom lecture and laboratory hours will be distributed equitably between the successful applicant and existing members of faculty in Dermatology.
