The successful candidate should have a background in an economics field including, but not limited to, forest economics, environmental and resource economics, trade or macroeconomics, development economics, and behavioral economics. Similarly, they could employ a wide range of methods, including, but not limited to, applied econometrics, experiments, optimization, sector modeling, and valuation. Successful candidates should have a research program related to the environment, natural resources, ecosystem services, conservation, land use, forests, wildlife, or ecology.

We are seeking candidates trained in economics and dedicated to applying their skills to make a difference for the environment and natural resources. They will create a vibrant research program, mentor undergraduates, graduates, and trainees, make meaningful contributions to our department's teaching mission, and engage with natural resources decision-makers. The Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is internationally known for its research, teaching, and outreach, and we are eager to welcome a new colleague to work and collaborate with us.

Duties:
* Develop and carry out a vigorous externally funded research program, and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. The focus of that research program is the choice of the successful candidate, and flexible as long as it interfaces economics with natural resources management and the environment. Examples of research topics include ecosystem service valuation, effectiveness of protected areas, impact evaluation of conservation payment programs, carbon and timber markets, fire management, adaptation of forest management given climate change and invasive species. We stress that this list is not comprehensive, and only provide it to highlight that we welcome applications from economists focused on a wide range of research questions related to the environment and natural resources. The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding. Research collaborations with other faculty in our department, and across campus, are encouraged.

* Teach graduate and undergraduate students, commensurate with college expectations and consistent with the teaching loads of the department. Mentor students and promote their development and success in a collaborative environment. The incumbent will teach two courses. The first is an undergraduate course titled ?Economics in Forest Management,? which covers forest management, valuation, decision-making, and optimization. The incumbent will also develop a second course targeted at upper level undergraduate and/or graduate students in the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences and across campus. This second course should focus on the candidate?s area of expertise.

* Contribute to outreach and service functions of the department, college, university, and professional societies.

* Contribute to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department, college, and university. Promote an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities.
