This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for marketing and communications for Student Experiences & Engagement (SEE), including network engagement, promotion of programs, services, and opportunities, as well as planning the coordination of special projects. The incumbent will carry out marketing and execution of various campaigns, as well as be the principal content creator for social media, website, and media communication. The successful candidate will play an integral role in building and engaging OSU’s diverse student body, growing student participation, and creating strategies that will promote the long-term growth of our organization. Position Duties 40% Marketing Planning and Implementation  
  •  Assists with the creation and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communication plan in conjunction with the Associate Director and Leadership team. Determines priorities for the org and departments with concise goals and objectives, identifies target outreach, and reports results.
  •  Determines and leads tactics (online, print, or promotional items) to meet short and long range marketing goals, including determining budget, scope and deadlines. Includes routine assessment of efforts via analytics, data collection, market research, and feedback tracking systems.
  •  Coordinates and manages third-party software licenses related to marketing and communication for the organization.
  •  Leads and manages the execution of marketing campaigns from start to finish, tracking their impact and analyzing their effectiveness.
  •  Integrates equity, inclusion, and belonging practices into the marketing and communication strategy, processes, and deliverables. 
  •  Compiles and maintains communication policies, principles, and strategies, including relevant developments and industry trends.

 


30% Content Development and Brand Management  
  •  Develops ideas, content, and copywriting for marketing communications and campaigns.
  •  Creates content and production for digital and print promotional materials including, e-newsletters, flyers, digital displays, media, web pages, blogs, emails. 
  •  Collaborates closely with colleagues to develop content and messaging for targeted outreach events, programs, and audiences. Create various, compelling, and shareable content types (videos, podcasts, articles, infographics) that educates and entertains our audience, and is optimized for the channel. 
  •  Manages and coordinates projects utilizing and leveraging on-campus and off-campus marketing vendors.
  •  Serves as the principal web administrator for the organization, creates and maintains content for the website including but not limited to feature stories, promotions for signature programs, and design elements.
  •  Anticipates and forecasts needs for content creation and development. 
  •  Builds and manages social media and multimedia strategy and presence to increase and engage audiences on social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and additional channels that may be deemed relevant.  
  •  Builds and manages a rich content/editorial calendar that attracts and engages articulated constituencies and audiences.
 
20% Supervision and Leadership
  •  Responsible for providing overall leadership and supervision to student graphic designers and marketing assistants.
  •  Supervises and manages student staff, including performance evaluation, training and motivation, and personnel actions.

5% Outreach and Representation
  •  Develops relationships and communication efforts for and with campus partners including but not limited to academic departments, academic advising, Admissions, Campus Tours, START Orientation, University Marketing and Relations, Division of Student Affairs departments, the Office of Institutional Diversity, and the Alumni Association.
  •  Represents the organization at various community events, information sessions, and university functions and events.
  •  Represents the SEE organization with divisional and university communication committees and efforts.
  •  Manages database of on and off campus participants, users, clients, and stakeholders.

5% Other Duties
  •  Completes special projects, serves on committees, and completes other duties as assigned.
  •  May support the development and education of undergraduate and graduate students in the form of committee involvement, internship supervision, and/or being in the classroom.
  Minimum/Required Qualifications
  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent continuing education or professional development in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, design, new media, critical studies, or a related field
  •  2 years of professional experience working within a marketing or communication related field, inclusive of the creation of media/communication content
  •  Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  •  Demonstrated skills in editing and proofreading
  •  Demonstrated commitment to promoting and integrating equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and justice
  •  Demonstrated leadership in developing relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders using emotional intelligence and humility
  •  Demonstrated experience managing multiple creative projects, which includes development, implementation, and management of marketing strategy and tactics
  •  Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving skills, sound judgement to make complex decisions
  •  A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity

 

  Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  •  Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, design, new media, critical studies or a related field
  •  3-5 years of professional experience working within a marketing or communication related field
  •  Demonstrated leadership and/or experience as a member or leader of a creative team
  •  Demonstrated proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Suite, or other creative and design software
  •  Experience in website development or social media management
  •  Experience in delivering presentations and public speaking
  •  Experience in using data, analytics or conducting market research to inform strategy
  •  Experience supervising a team (ie; professional or student staff/interns)
  •  Experience with Associated Press (AP) writing style
  •  Experience working in a higher education setting
  •  Experience managing a budget for a program or campaign

 

  Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work will generally be between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in an office environment. Position may be required to work some evenings and weekends, as well as may be required to travel for some local and regional outreach events on occasion.
