Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The Department of Dance at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Dance at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022.

Responsibilities: Teach daily a dance technique class (ballet, contemporary, jazz, and/or world dance forms) and able to teach choreography courses. The candidate must also contribute significantly to the MFA program by teaching graduate level coursework and serving on/chairing thesis committees. Based on departmental needs and the individual’s area of specialization, other courses assigned could include anatomy/kinesiology for dance, dance history and theories, dance pedagogy, or dance technologies and production. Demonstrated potential for distinguished creative and/or publication required.

Educational Requirements for the Position
MFA or PhD in Dance. Experience Required for the Position
Minimum two years of experience teaching at the college level is required.

Experience teaching at the college level is required. Professional experience in performance and/or choreography is highly desired. Other Requirements for the Position
Other duties: All Department of Dance faculty members must develop creative and/or scholarly research that demonstrates continuing growth of regional, national and international visibility. Creating choreography or staging repertory for departmental productions each semester is also required. The applicant must work collegially with others and be committed to mentoring students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with individuals from all communities and cultures is required, with commitment to encourage and support diversity. The successful candidate must be an inspiring teacher and artist/scholar who will make strong contributions to the department’s mission through excellence in teaching, creative work and/or publication, and commitment to service and community engagement.

Service is an integral aspect of the position. Departmental service encompasses responsibilities of student advisement and mentoring (undergraduate and graduate), active recruitment and regular participation in departmental audition process for both the BFA and MFA programs. In addition to the centrality of departmental service, tenure-track and tenured dance faculty also serve on college and university committees. Special Instructions Summary
