Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for full-time, Assistant Professors of Practice in Animation starting Fall 2022.

We are seeking applicants with an MFA or equivalent experience/certification in Animation or a related area for up to three positions. Applicants should be able to teach beginning courses in 2D and/or 3D Computer Animation, and should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: 2D animation, stop motion animation, and 3D modeling (Maya and ZBrush) and the 3D rendering pipeline.

Duties include teaching a 3/3 course load and service on departmental committees. Educational Requirements for the Position
Candidates must possess an MFA or terminal degree in a related field, or have equivalent professional experience, and demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity. Experience Required for the Position
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is strongly preferred. Industry experience is also an asset. Other Requirements for the Position
The Department of Art www.shsu.edu/art has about 550 undergraduate majors in Graphic Design, Studio Art, Photography, and Animation and offers an MFA in Art and Social Practice. The BFA in Animation is the largest program in the department with over 200 majors. Ranked by Animation Career Review as one of the top 50 Public Animation Schools and Colleges in the U.S, the SHSU Computer Animation curriculum is built on a foundation of fine art courses, emphasizing creativity and experimentation along with technical ability. The program engages students with current and historic trends in animation, and includes courses in the History of Animation, 2D Animation, 3D Modeling and Animation, 3D Character Animation, Experimental Animation, and Interactive Animation.
