Job Description Summary

This posting is accepting applications to establish a pool of applicants for possible future part-time openings.

The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities during the day, evening, or weekend via instructional delivery formats to include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote. Face-to-face and hybrid classes may be offered on any Prince George’s Community College campus. The instructor must remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. The instructor is also responsible for participating in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, curriculum design.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree or equivalent* or Bachelor’s Degree with current degree-candidate status in an accredited ESOL graduate program. (* Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours or more of relevant academic study in an accredited doctoral program may, at the discretion of the Vice President, be determined to meet this requirement.)
  2. Minimum of 15 graduate-level credits in ESOL or related field, modern foreign language, or linguistics.
  3. Full-time or part-time teaching experience in an ESOL program at the secondary or post-secondary level which may include graduate teaching assistant experience.
  4. OR Bachelor’s degree with concentration in French, or Spanish, or in linguistics and pertinent professional experience in ESOL ; or a Master’s Degree and pertinent professional experience in ESOL .


Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.

  1. Extent and relevance of teaching experience. Extent and relevance of graduate educational preparation in areas relevant to anticipated course assignments.
  2. Extent and relevance of non-teaching professional experience to anticipated teaching assignments. Example: Curriculum development.
  3. Extent and relevance of scope and diversity of content areas in which teaching assignments can be undertaken.
  4. Evidence of ability to teach effectively within, and contribute positively to, a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment.


Job Requirements

  1. Degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Documentation of experience and performance required.
  3. Unofficial transcripts must accompany application for teaching positions. Before an applicant can be recommended for hire, he/she must have an unofficial transcript on file with the college. Official transcripts of academic work are required upon an offer of employment.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  5. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
