Curator of the Stephen Hui Geological Museum and Tenure-track Assistant Professor



Applications are invited for appointment as Curator of the Stephen Hui Geological Museum and Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 508870), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Stephen Hui Geological Museum, located on the campus of the University of Hong Kong, opened its doors in 2009 as the first and only geological museum in Hong Kong. Through its extensive collections, exhibits, and activities, the Museum provides an attractive object-based learning facility to visitors of all ages for understanding the nature and evolution of our planet and inspiring an appreciation of the dynamic natural world of Earth Sciences, its research, and its application to daily life. The Department of Earth Sciences has research strengths in Earth history and global change, solid Earth and planetary sciences and applied/urban geosciences, and houses major research facilities. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences or a related discipline. They should be able to demonstrate experience in the management, development, and curatorial practices of a geological museum and its permanent collection, exhibitions and educational and public programmes. They should also be able to demonstrate excellence in research in the Earth Sciences. Teaching duties will be assigned by the Head of Department. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable. A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the candidate will be provided.
