POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Department of Environmental Studies offers a highly interdisciplinary program serving underrepresented groups and first-generation college students. Our majors are required to complete courses in social and natural sciences, an internship, and a thesis. We offer a B.S., B.A., and minor in Environmental Studies. POSITION DETAILS:

This tenure-track position Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2022.

JOB DUTIES:

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Teaching undergraduate courses
  • Develop courses for the ENVS program
  • Advise/supervise student research
  • Engage in scholarly activities including developing research program/agenda and publishing peer-reviewed articles
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and the environmental community
  • Seek sponsored funding, contribute to grant submission and administration

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Environmental Science or related field; ABD applicants will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2022.

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices in working with a diverse student body.

  • Ability to teach a range of major and general education courses.

  • Evidence of research.

  • Evidence of scholarship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in one or more environmental areas including, but not limited to, social-ecological systems, global change science, or ecology in terrestrial, freshwater, or marine systems.

  • Experience mentoring and/or advising undergraduate students.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching.

  • Demonstrated experience or desire to conduct actionable research for those impacted by environmental change.

  • Ability or desire to secure external funds or other research support.
