Serving as Georgia's state capitol for 64 years, Milledgeville is a charming, traditional southern town located less than a two-hour drive from Atlanta, and an easy drive from all the other great cities in the Peach State - Augusta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, and Savannah. Close enough to everything, but far away enough to avoid the hustle and bustle.



Job Summary

The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business (CoB) at Georgia College & State University, with programs of study accredited by AACSB and ABET, invites applications for a full-time lecturer to teach seminar courses central to our public liberal arts mission. Beginning August 1, 2022, the candidate will teach multiple sections of our freshman-level critical thinking course (GC1Y) and sophomore-level course that explores global implications (GC2Y), with the potential to teach other courses in discipline. This ten-month faculty position focuses on contributing to Georgia College's mission of teaching excellence. Candidates are required to have a master degree or a terminal degree in data analytics, data science, information systems, computer science, or international business. The Department of Information Systems and Computer Science offers a Master of Management Information Systems, a BBA in Management Information Systems, a BS in Computer Science, and beginning in fall 2022, a BS in Data Science.



Responsibilities

The lecturer will be assigned a 4/4 teaching load with face-to-face undergraduate teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) and sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses with the potential to also teach introductory or elective courses in the appropriate discipline. Faculty are also expected develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline. Other critical responsibilities in our teacher-scholar model include:

  • Research and/or Professional Contributions: lecturers must conduct research and develop within the profession including peer-reviewed scholarly publications, presentations at academic/professional meetings, or engage in other scholarly or business practice activities to continually meet our faculty qualifications policy (AACSB Standard 3).
  • Service: All faculty are expected to support the advancement of our mission by providing high quality service to the department, college, university, community, and disciplinary level.


Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the lecturer in the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science must have a master degree or terminal degree (preferred) in an appropriate field of study relevant to the department. Other required qualifications include:

  • Understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning;
  • Successful higher education teaching experience within the candidate's area of specialization;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • A passion for working with and mentoring students; and
  • Demonstrable ability to work collegiality and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds. In keeping with the University's mission, we especially encourage applicants who will further our goal of cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender diversity;
