The Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Assistant Professor rank clinical track position in the Human Nutrition Program to complement and extend our accredited Masters in Dietetics and Nutrition (MDN) coordinated degree program and Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). We seek a faculty member with expertise in clinical dietetics to support courses such as Medical Nutrition Therapy and Pathophysiology and Nutrition Care Process Lab as well as develop new advanced clinical courses. We seek a faculty member with demonstrated

• teaching and clinical supervision excellence;
• commitment to advising/mentorship of master’s students;
• potential for or strong record of research, including pedagogical research; and
• expertise aligned with one or more of the following Pillars in the College of Education and Human Ecology: Early Childhood, Urban and Rural Education, Health and Economic Vitality, and Internalization and Global Engagement.

This position will begin in August of 2022. Our MDN program trains graduate students to employ evidence-based clinical practices in a variety of contexts, including at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, one of the country’s top-ranked academic medical centers and recently ranked No. 4 of Forbes’ list of best U.S. employers for diversity. Additionally, our faculty train students to conduct advanced, publishable capstone projects in a variety of practice areas.

Qualifications: At the time of appointment, candidates are required to have a doctorate in nutrition/dietetics related field or have a masters degree with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience. Candidates must be credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and be eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio. Candidates must have an established record of teaching and scholarly activities commensurate with the rank of assistant professor at the Ohio State University, experience working with or advising graduate students, and a commitment to quality teaching, clinical supervision, and advising/mentorship. Candidates with experience teaching medical nutrition therapy, supervising in acute care clinical settings, and academic experience in curriculum development are preferred. Preference will be granted to candidates who demonstrate excellence in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching, research, and service agendas and who offer robust evidence of sustained impact.

MASTERS IN DIETETICS AND NUTRITION: The Master’s in Dietetics and Nutrition (MDN) program brings together dietetics and nutrition experts from the Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology and the Medical Dietetics program in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The program is a two-year accredited program that seamlessly integrates didactic coursework with supervised practice experience into one advanced degree program with graduates being eligible for the national registration exam for registered dietitian nutritionists. The program integrates interprofessional education simulation and standardized patient simulation using the Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center. Faculty have developed clinical research collaborations with the Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

HUMAN NUTRITION: The Human Nutrition program in the Department of Human Sciences graduate degree programs are the Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition, Master of Science in Human Nutrition, and Masters in Dietetics and Nutrition and bachelor’s degree programs Human Nutrition, Dietetics as well as Human Nutrition, Nutrition in Industry and Human Nutrition, Nutrition Sciences and Human Nutrition, Health Promotion, Nutrition and Exercise Science. The Human Nutrition program offers a minor in Human Nutrition as well as a stand-alone dietetic internship program for individuals who hold a masters or doctorate degree. The program is composed of an internationally recognized faculty with active research agendas.

DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SCIENCES: The Department of Human Sciences is home to four core academic areas, offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees: Consumer Sciences, Human Development and Family Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Kinesiology. In addition, the department plays a leadership role in Ohio State’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Nutrition (OSUN), and houses the Sport, Fitness and Health Program, an activity-based academic program providing classes to more than 8,000 Ohio State students each year. A strong partnership with OSU Extension enhances opportunities for outreach and engagement in the state of Ohio. Another important university partnership exists with Ohio State’s Discovery Themes, with an emphasis in our department on metabolomics.

The department has a faculty of 53 productive members, with grants from local, state, and federal organizations such as NSF, NIH, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Faculty also have funding from a host of industry- and community-based organizations. In FY 2017, Human Sciences had $3M expenditures from current awards and 14 new awards totaling $5.1M. Ten graduate majors and nine undergraduate majors are housed within the department; students may choose from 36 curricular options.
