Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program)
The School of Continuing Education (SCE) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is looking a hands-on, energetic, organized, and detail oriented individual to join a team of professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment. The School of Continuing Education is the largest provider of professional development in Southeastern Wisconsin providing year-round lifelong learning through varied venues including short courses, workshops, and certificate programs. UWM SCE delivers online and blended instruction as well as educational opportunities via traditional classroom interaction in our state-of-the-art classrooms in downtown Milwaukee, and customized, onsite instruction at business locations and other unique locations throughout the city, region, and country.
Job Summary
This position will function in a team environment, leading the planning, development, delivery, logistics, administration, and evaluation of face-to-face and online non-credit courses in Elastomer Technology, Electrical Engineering, Facility Management, Industrial/Mechanical, Plastics Technology, Architecture, Sustainability and Water Technology programs areas. The incumbent is expected to support SCE's commitment to ‘leading change' through competency-based programming, promoting local and global collaborations, and introducing innovative programming to remain current with customer needs and changes in the work world. The successful candidate will assist the program director and business development manager with day-to -day operations of the program areas, including the scheduling of classes and instructional staff, promotion, and publicity tasks, writing and editing marketing copy and related tasks.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Plan, coordinate and implement program activities
- Manage instructor relationships - including scheduling,
directing travel arrangements, material coordination, contracting
activities, and classroom preparation
- Manage participant relationships - answer curriculum-based
questions from students, start-up programs/introduce instructors,
resolve participant disputes, and seek opportunities to
interact
- Initiate new program areas for program revenue generation,
determine curriculum, investigate subject matter expertise needs
and identify and recruit new instructors
- Write and submit training proposals for customized training and
generate additional program revenue; Work with customized training
consultants regarding logistics - classroom location, delivery of
materials, and communication with participants
Research and Program Development and Evaluation - Research new marketing avenues for traditional and professional
associations that support Engineering, Architecture,
Sustainability, and Water Technology professionals
- Monitor enrollments and use data to identify strategic
marketing needs/opportunities
- Investigate current trends and determine how best to support
training needs
- Evaluate the current program activity make go/no-go decisions
regarding class cancellations
- Evaluate new program formats - such as online training - and
timely and relevant topics for new courses
Marketing Activities - Coordinate with SCE marketing staff to develop marketing plans
- defining audiences, maintaining “go to” lists, proofing and
editing copy and budgets
- Assist with promoting and publicity of training and education
programs
- Write copy and course descriptions when necessary
- Review and approve marketing pieces, both print and
email
- Direct marketing activities for email announcements as
needed
Minimum Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 3 years relevant work experience including administrative, customer service, and sales
• Excellent, collaborative, communication skills including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population
• Evidence of strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software
• Ability to maintain flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends when necessary, to support programs
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred
• Experience working in engineering/manufacturing/architecture and/or sustainability environment a plus.
• Master’s degree and/or specialized training or certification in related subject matter including management, engineering, architecture, and/or sustainability
• Experience working in higher education environment; adult programming responsibilities a plus
• Proficiency in Web Technology skills with documented experience posting and updating website(s); experience with Word Press and/or Canvas software a plus
• On-line technology experience facilitating programs or large interactive meetings using software such as Teams and Zoom
• Project Management experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully plan and execute deadline-driven projects with minimum supervision
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills that establish prior experience engaging and building relationships
• Demonstrated understanding of cost accounting principles including break-even/profit analysis for individual projects
