The Shared Office for Administration of Research (SOAR) assists researchers in applying for and managing sponsored funding. SOAR provides research administration services to the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, College of Health Sciences, the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health, and College of Nursing.



Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing pre- and post-award grants management in the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health. UWM's Zilber School of Public Health strives to be an innovative, interdisciplinary, ‘next generation' School of Public Health and is a Carnegie-designated Doctoral/Research-Extensive institution undergoing dynamic growth toward expanded research excellence.

This position is located in the Shared Office for Administration of Research (SOAR), and open to a hybrid (remote/in-person) work schedule in accordance with current UWM remote work policy.

The Grants Administrator will report to the SOAR Director and will take the lead in all pre-award administrative aspects of the research application and will manage the post-award administration for sponsored programs for grants within their specified portfolio. The position will serve as a liaison among principal investigators (PI's), university administrative units, sponsors, and departments/deans on proposal development and submission and award review, set-up and financial management.

Estimated percentage of time: Pre-Award - Proposal Preparation (45%), Post-Award - Financial Management (50%), Manage and Participate in special projects as assigned (5%)

The title for this position by time of hire will be Research Administrator with a business title of Grants Administrator.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution earned by the date of hire
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the financial management of administrative activities of a business or governmental program
  • Experience in sponsored research administration
  • Knowledge of Federal and Non-Federal sponsored guidelines, policies, practices, funding sources


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
  • Knowledge of UWM financial systems and accounting procedures
  • Experience providing pre-award and post award activities including compliance monitoring related to expenditures and effort reporting
