The Department of Communication within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa seeks to hire a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor of Communication to begin August 2022. This is a continuing non-tenure-track position, which is eligible for professional promotion.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News & World Report.

We are looking for a communication generalist who is able to teach undergraduate courses such as Media and Society, Visual Literacy, and other critical media and film studies courses. The teaching load for this position is four courses (16 credit hours) per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching. We welcome innovative pedagogies, and varied research agendas and traditions of scholarship. A Ph.D. in Communication or a relevant field is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed by the beginning of the fall 2022 semester.

The University of Tampa’s Communication Department houses four vibrant majors: Communication, Media and Culture; Communication and Speech Studies; Advertising and Public Relations; and Journalism. The department also contributes to graduate programs in Professional Communication, and Social and Emerging Media. The communication curriculum is designed to meaningfully explore critical perspectives on media and culture as it prepares students to engage as citizens and professional communicators.

Applications received by Jan. 23, 2022 will receive priority consideration.

Applicants should apply through The University of Tampa employment website at www.ut.edu/jobs and be prepared to include the following: Current curriculum vitae, cover letter with a brief explanation of candidate’s teaching philosophy, at least one sample syllabus, name, phone number, email address for three (3) references. As part of this application process, applicants are asked to submit a two page statement about their past, present, and future contributions to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in their professional careers. In evaluating Diversity Statements, search committee members often consider the applicants’: Awareness of inequities and challenges faced by underrepresented minority students and faculty. Track record (commensurate to career stage) of activities that reduce barriers in education or research for underrepresented minority students and faculty. Vision and plans for how their work will continue to contribute to the University of Tampa’s mission to serve the needs of our diverse state and student population and create an inclusive campus.
