Job Summary:

Operates large solid waste removal trucks and heavy equipment to collect, transport, and dump the institution's solid waste and recycling materials while ensuring compliance with environmental and governmental laws on what can/cannot be landfilled.

Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Wisconsin driving laws and regulations. Ability to safely operate a large motor vehicle.
- Knowledge of safety rules in operation of a large motor vehicle.
- Knowledge of proper operating levels for engine oils, transmission fluids, coolants, tire pressure, etc.
- Knowledge of basic procedures in handling hazardous wastes and chemicals. Recognize potentially hazardous situations.
- Knowledge of safe lifting methods and general safety precautions for handling materials.
- Knowledge of campus locations for collecting waste containers.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to complete records and reports
- Ability to maintain a professional and service-oriented relationship with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to present a neat, clean appearance at all times.
- Ability and willingness to perform heavy lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling, and the ability to work under varying weather conditions: severe cold, extreme heat, rain, snow, and ice.
- Ability to guide work of laborers or temporary help.
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work hours in excess of the normal work shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
