The Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration ( PARCC ) at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs seeks to hire a post-doctoral scholar to work with interdisciplinary teams of faculty and graduate students on its Collaborative Governance Initiative ( CGI ). Through its CGI, PARCC has emerged as a global leader for research and practice in this critical area of public affairs. The post-doctoral scholar position will begin in spring semester 2022. This 12-month position is for two years.

The post-doctoral scholar will be engaged in two on-going CGI projects: (1) the Atlas of Collaboration, and (2) Leadership and Collaboration: The International Space Station. The first project seeks to create a large-n database with multi-level, multi-type, and multi-site data on the structures, processes, inputs, outputs, and outcomes of collaborative governance regimes, collaborative platforms, and collaborative systems. The second project will employ structured focus comparison to study the multiple leaders and multiple governments engaged in the International Space Station collaboration across time. For both projects, the post-doctoral scholar will assist with the design and implementation of data collection instruments and protocols; the construction of databases; data analysis; the production and dissemination of knowledge through reports, academic publications, and presentations; the organization and facilitation of workshops; and team management and oversight.

To ensure that the postdoctoral scholar is successful in this position, a mentoring team will work closely with the scholar to develop a plan in support of the proposed projects. At a minimum, the mentoring plan will include strategies for (1) completion of project goals and tasks, (2) building a competitive portfolio and skill set for job placement, (3) teaching, research, and service, and (4) the postdoctoral scholar’s role in guiding graduate students and the research teams.

PARCC, an interdisciplinary research center in the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, seeks to advance theory, education, and practice in conflict analysis and resolution and collaboration and collaborative governance. The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is home to the social science disciplines at Syracuse University and is ranked #1 in the nation for graduate education in public affairs, according to the 2021 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a social science discipline at the starting date. Preference will be given to applicants who are familiar with collaborative governance research, have strong research design skills, and are able to use multiple quantitative and qualitative research methods. The applicant must be in residence for the duration of the post-doctoral scholarship period. Job Specific Qualifications

Responsibilities
The post-doctoral scholar will be responsible for:

• Conducting background research and literature reviews to inform two projects in PARCC’s Collaborative Governance Initiative, including gaps in research and scholarship and research design.
• Designing and implementing data collection instruments and protocols; constructing databases; analyzing data quality and integrity; identifying and solving data quality problems; data analysis.
• Producing and disseminating knowledge through co-authored writing and release of reports, academic publications, presentations, and other scholarly outputs.
• Managing and overseeing multi-disciplinary research teams.
• Writing grant applications and reports.
• Organizing and facilitating scholarly workshops.
• Other duties as assigned.
