Haverford College invites applications to our available full time, exempt (at least 37.5 hours per week), benefit eligible Associate Director of Bi-College Campus Safety position.
Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College are educational institutions located approximately two (2) miles apart in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each school has approximately 1,300 students residing on campus. Students can take classes and participate in activities on both campuses; a free bus service runs continuous between them to facilitate cross-institutional student engagement. The two schools work collaboratively in what is known as the Bi-College (or “Bi-Co”) consortium, and certain departments, including the Campus Safety departments, are managed by a leadership team that serves both campuses equally.
The two Campus Safety Departments are a 24/7 operations that work to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors that is conducive to both academic achievement and social development. Among others, departmental responsibilities include: overall safety of the campus communities, management of the electronic access to buildings, parking policies and enforcement, environmental health and safety (at Haverford), safety education and crime prevention, emergency preparedness, compliance and reporting, late night student transportation services, and first-responder service to any on-campus emergency/call.
The Associate Director of Bi-Co Campus Safety will collaborate with, and report to, the Bi-Co Executive Director to help develop the strategic vision for the Departments. The Associate Director will help implement the programmatic priorities that allows the Bryn Mawr and Haverford College Campus Safety Departments to fulfill their mission to both colleges effectively. Such work includes the creation, review, and dissemination of various policies, procedures and operational directives; overseeing the performance of the field staff and managing daily operations; ensuring regulatory compliance; and developing outreach programs to connect with and support students.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience (e.g., mental health and other forms of personal crisis response, safety/security, emergency response/incident command, etc.)
- Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a Bryn Mawr and Haverford MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check
- Ability to obtain and maintain clear reports for Pennsylvania Act 153 Child Abuse Clearances
- Achieving and maintaining First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications
- A demonstrated commitment to the College's values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism
- An understanding of and appreciation for gender and racial equity and restorative justice initiatives
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community members, particularly students and student groups
- Prior experience in a higher education environment.

This status determines for the identification, treatment of time, and use of “Essential Personnel” during campus emergencies, including those that dictate suspension of services and/or closure of operations, i.e. inclement weather. During an emergency, Essential Personnel are required to be on campus in order to provide services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the College, ensure continuity of key operations, and maintain and protect College's properties.
