Job Description:

Works within a health team and community partners to ensure successful implementation of high-quality health screenings. Oversees and supports screenings conducted by medical, nursing and allied health students in elementary schools for children of grade school years; ensures quality and efficiency of health screening events. Assists in the advancement of the Score 1 for Health Program supporting best practices in community health/school nursing including health promotion and improving family access to high-quality primary care services. Responsible for appropriate on-going training and quality skills assurance of Score 1 staff in order to maintain best practices ensuring timely completion of health screenings and communications. Supports program development to improve health literacy for children, parents and the community and enhances connection to health services for parent/guardians for their children. Supports KCU student success in pediatrics, community and public health, and advances student sensitivity in social determinants of health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements the health screening process
  • Conducts follow-up health screenings in schools
  • Ensures parent/guardians and school health officials receive screening results
  • Supervises and oversees health screenings conducted by medical and allied heath students
  • Serves as educator and mentor to students
  • Assists in the advancement of the Score 1 for Health Program.
  • Serves as community-university liaison for health outreach, health education and advancement of community health
  • Educates patients/parents/guardians and school personnel on various topics
  • Makes certain safety protocols are followed and within federal regulations
  • Represents the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and Expectations
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory governance, universal precautions, and/or standard protocols
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing
  • Current registered nursing license in Missouri and/or Kansas
  • At least one year experience as a nurse in a pediatric and/or community health clinical environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish, a plus
  • Must be knowledgeable and skillful in pediatric (age-appropriate) health promotion, guidance, and primary care skills
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Critical thinking skills essential
  • Demonstrated ability to decipher and interpret information and able to respond/react effectively and appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and appropriately with patients, parents, and school administrators
  • Must be able to function as a team leader to effectively oversee screenings [instructions, training, charting, etc.]
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Must have excellent customer relations skills for decision making and problem solving
  • Good at multi-tasking and shifting priorities as needed for the good of the cause
  • Respectful of others, uses effective judgment, practices confidentiality, and exercises discretion appropriate
