The Department of Art and Design within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Art and Design, with a specialization in Graphic Design, to begin August 2022.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area.  UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News & World Report.

The University of Tampa’s Department of Art and Design is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Department comprises six major areas of undergraduate study: Art (BFA), Graphic Design (BFA), Art Therapy, Design, Museum Studies, and Visual Arts.

The position requires the ability to teach all levels of Graphic Design including introductory to advanced level courses that include design fundamentals, typography, print design, production, trademark + branding, packaging design, user experience, user interface design, design thinking, web design and portfolio development. The department seeks to hire an active and engaged faculty member who combines disciplinary expertise with excellence in teaching. Those with extensive industry experience are encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is 16-semester hours (typically 4 four-credit courses) in a 15-week semester. As our faculty work very closely with students, the successful candidate will be required to maintain office hours to meet with students, serve as an academic adviser, contribute to the function and educational objectives of the program and department, provide service to the college, university, community, and the profession, and perform all other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will join a department of thirteen full-time faculty members and four full-time instructional staff committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a strong research culture where traditional and emerging art and design processes and technologies are used across the disciplines in a diverse and collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts (or other terminal degree) in Graphic Design and/or equivalent experience in the field.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional Graphic Design experience. Knowledge of design history, theory, and contemporary issues in design. Relevant college teaching experience in the theory and practice of human-centered design, design thinking, and design processes and systems.

Review of applications will begin immediately, but the search will remain open until the position is filled. Applications received by January 1, 2022 will receive full consideration.
