Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring a Pesticide Applicator to provide a comprehensive fertilization and pest control program at the Daytona Beach Campus. This includes but is not limited to control of weeds, insects, and diseases of flower beds, shrubs, and trees. This program is critical in the continued reduction of plant loss and the labor of manual weed control. It is pivotal in enhancing the aesthetics of the campus as a whole.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Chemical weed and grass control around trees, shrubs, and flower beds.
  • Insect control on trees, shrubs and in flower beds.
  • Respond to stinging insect complaints, i.e. wasps, ants, bees, etc.
  • Preventative inspections of plant materials on campus.
  • Equipment cleaning and maintenance.
  • Recordkeeping and documentation on all applications.
  • Fertilization on plant materials to ensure proper growth and health.
  • Mandatory training.
  • Assist the horticulture crew in their routine assignments.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Formal diploma/certificate/degree program of 6-18 months after high school. Area of study: Pest Control
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of pest control.
Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:
  • Limited Lawn and Ornamental Holder, Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
    • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
    • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year
    • A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
