The Nursing Student Success and Retention Specialist assists students in developing personal and academic skills needed to successfully complete their associate nursing degrees. Duties include providing instruction; assisting students in applying theory to clinical practice; developing and implementing clinical simulation scenarios for the Clinical Skills Lab; providing one-on-one assistance for students who need support in achieving clinical performance in the clinical setting; coordinating nursing academic support services and products to achieve identified student outcomes; collaborating with faculty on all aspects of student support services; and serving as a liaison with the College’s student support services. Other duties include developing, coordinating, and revising nursing program success activities; and serving on committees and attending department and division meetings.

This is an exempt, professional staff position.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement. 

A bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a minimum of five years of experience is required, including two years of full-time clinical experience. 

Previous experience as a nurse educator is strongly preferred. Applicants must be licensed or have the ability to be licensed in Maryland; have clinical expertise in foundations of nursing and medical/surgical nursing; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. Effective communication skills, organizational, and time management skills, as well as effective technology skills including MS Office, electronic health records, and Blackboard are required, as well as the ability to master other educational and health care technologies are also required.

Experience with the ATI student support system and ExamSoft testing software, as well as low- and high-fidelity simulation preferred.

Generally, hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, daytime.  Some evenings may be required.  Final work schedule to be determined by the supervisor.
