Job Description

The emergency hospital provides night, weekend and holiday patient care for animals that are critically ill, that are subject to change or deteriorate rapidly, and that require technically complex and time-consuming treatment and monitoring. Veterinary Technician responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Enter fees for all patients in a timely manner to promote excellent client service, Order supplies and stock the hospital daily with disposables, Clean animal cages and the hospital facility. Maintain a wide variety of complex equipment that is vital to providing care for patients. Answer client phone calls and emergency questions. Perform triage for animals presented for emergency care. Assist doctors with emergency procedures including keeping accurate medical records, catheter placement, phlebotomy, radiography, sedation, and anesthesia monitoring for emergency cases.

Salary

Pay starts at $17/hour dependent on years of experience and license with the State of Missouri

Grade: GGS 6

Shift

The Kanas City Animal Emergency Clinic is open nights, weekends and holiday. Business hours are Monday - Thursday 6pm - 8am and Friday to Monday 6pm - 8am. Shifts to be discussed during interviews.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a two-year American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program and license as registered veterinary technician with the State of Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have excellent communication skills, to interact with pet owners and veterinary staff. Must have an understanding of animal behavior and strong clinical skills in order to properly evaluate an animal’s condition and provide treatment. Must be detailed-oriented and well organized to take medical histories, carry out instructions, document patient statistics and update records. Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain pets.
