Part-time History Instructor: African American History Course
The History Program in the School of Humanities, Education, Justice & Social Sciences is seeking someone to teach a class in African American History.
This is a face-to-face class that is scheduled to Mondays 3:30-6:00pm
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning.
- Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes.
- Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
- Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour each week either on campus or through conference calling such as Zoom.
- Incorporate Canvas (online learning platform) into the course.
- Keep accurate records of student progress (grades) and complete mid-semester and final grade reports by registrar deadlines
Qualifications:
A willingness to incorporate the college's Connected Learning Philosophy into the course as well as a master's degree in a related field are required (doctoral degree preferred). Career-relevant experience such as research and/or statistics is a plus.
Course Description: This course explores the history of African Americans in the United States from their African beginnings to the present. It traces the lives and status of African Americans, enslaved and emancipated, as they confronted the barriers of legal, institutional, and cultural prejudices; it examines the socioeconomic and political experiences of blacks in America and investigates strategies of accommodation, resistance, and protest in the struggle of African Americans to gain human and first-class citizenship rights. This is a writing-intensive course.
