Assistant Professor in Special Education
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend invites applications for a tenure-line, assistant professor in special education starting August 2022. We are seeking a colleague who wants a career at a school where both teaching and research are equally valued.
Responsibilities of the job include:
- Teaching special education courses at the elementary and
secondary education level and teaching other undergraduate
education courses
- Maintaining an active research agenda that engages
undergraduate students
- Advising students and providing service to the school, college,
and University
Applicants must have:
- Completed an earned doctorate in special education or a closely
related field by the appointment start date
- Completed at least three years of special education teaching
experience, at any level, pre-K through twelfth grade
- Excellent teaching capabilities at the college level,
documented by student evaluations
Not required, but highly desirable, are either:
- Experience teaching in urban schools or research focusing on
urban schools
- Experience teaching linguistically diverse populations or
research involving linguistically diverse populations
Applicants should submit a cover letter documenting qualifications, statements of teaching and research, copies of recent student evaluations along with an explanation of the rating system and course description, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references who can speak to the applicant's experience and ability. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has about 70 full-time faculty members and offers nine bachelor's degrees (Communication; Creative Writing; Digital Media, Arts, and Technology; Elementary and Early Childhood Education; English; General Arts and Sciences; History; Political Science; and Psychology) and one master's degree (Applied Clinical Psychology.) The school is also home to the languages and the arts. The School supports a growing, all-campus interest in research that addresses issues of women's health or energy & sustainability.
