Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities
Juniata College invites applications for a three-year faculty position with the possibility of becoming tenure track, in a newly created Environmental Engineering program, starting August 2022. The ideal candidate will have expertise and scholarly interests in a range of potential areas. These areas might include (but not be limited to) water/wastewater treatment, modeling wastewater treatment and water distribution systems, biosolids treatment, bioremediation, and aquatic chemistry or expertise and potential interests in indoor/outdoor air pollution and atmospheric chemistry and modeling. The position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, integrating service and research, and scholarship focused on the institution’s educational mission. The Environmental Engineering Program will be housed within the Environmental Science and Studies Department, one of the largest departments at Juniata College. This new program will begin in Fall 2022 with the expectation that the successful candidate will be an integral part of its growth.

Position Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Environmental or Civil Engineering or closely related field. Candidates with a water/wastewater emphasis should have the demonstrated ability to teach courses focused on sustainable water/wastewater treatment design, sludge processing, bioremediation, water chemistry, hydraulics, and modeling environmental systems. Candidates with an air pollution emphasis should have the demonstrated ability to teach courses focused on air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, and/or climate change topics. Additionally, candidates should have a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college/university. Successful candidates should also have:
  • A commitment to an academic culture that is inclusive of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff;
  • Effective oral and written communication with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; and
  • Professional engineering registration in the U.S. or the ability to become licensed within five years.
Supervision Required/Given
The Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering reports directly to the provost Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college-level;
  • Consulting or industrial experience; and
  • Experience with professional organizations such as ABET, ASCE, and ASEE is highly desirable.
