Job Summary

The Systems Administrator provides high-level technical support, server administration, and assists the Director of Information Technology with all technology initiatives. This position holds responsibility for Westphal College’s physical and virtual server infrastructure and its configuration, application management, hardware maintenance, backup, security, and overall strategy.

This position must have the ability to think through projects and issues critically, consider the implications of choices and effectively see an assignment through to its timely end, including appropriate documentation and communication.

Essential Functions

Linux server administration:
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, monitoring, and planning.
  • Support the implementation of database, license, version control, render farm, and other related services.
Windows server administration:
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, monitoring, and planning.
  • Responsible for the configuration and management of the college’s print server.
  • Repairing/troubleshooting networked printers and management of group printer maintenance contracts.
  • Support the implementation of database, license, version control, render farm, and other related services.
Backup configuration and management:
  • Configure, automate, and verify backups of all Westphal-hosted data to assigned specifications.
  • Regularly improve and optimize backup strategy and implementation.
Strategic planning of server technology:
  • Physical and virtual server lifecycle.
  • Identify and capitalize on synergies across Drexel’s central and academic technology groups.
  • Coordinate projects with Drexel IT’s Core Technology Infrastructure and Information Security teams.
  • Security, permissions, and access management for the college resources.
  • Directory service, group policy, and profile management.
Other Essential Functions:
  • Adobe license administration.
  • Communication of planned system maintenance and outages.
  • Classroom and computer lab support as it relates to file server, render farm, and network-licensed software.
  • Maintain system documentation, technical specifications, and procedures for server infrastructure and network.
  • Manage warranty services and vendor service calls as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Computer related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Three years of managing a similar array of servers.
  • Three years of administering enterprise support, systems management, print, and access control applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of server and workstation operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Extensive knowledge of server application and service management.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
  • Clearly and effectively expresses ideas and thoughts (verbally and in writing).
  • The ability to act quickly, decisively, and calmly in a crisis.
Preferred Qualification
  • Master’s Degree in computer related field
