Spirit Program Coordinator & Head Cheer Coach – Dual full-time position (Fall and Spring semesters)

Manage approximately 70 student-athletes within three Spirit Squads. Directly coach the “Orange” and “Blue” Cheer Teams with supervising support and oversight to the Orange Dancers. Ongoing support and communication with the Mascot program given the collaboration that occurs throughout the year. Supervise and mentor a part-time coaching staff. Fiscally responsible for an annual operational budget. Specific responsibilities include: teach, train, demonstrate and evaluate proper cheerleading techniques; choreograph and script game stunts and entertainment performances working in concert with the Marching Band and pep bands. Coordinate with the marketing department game timelines; attend weekly Game Day meetings outlining quad and pre-game events, half-time celebrations, time-out promotions to enhance the fan experience. Support athlete academic objectives. Evaluate practice and game performances; assure performer readiness; budgeting; coordinate travel, public appearances, and practice schedules.

Coordinate public and University appearances in conjunction with Athletics, Alumni Office, Cuse Athletics Fund, and local charities. Safety training; fundraising and alumni relations; supervise training camp and National Championship trips; pre-qualifying duties; travel and performance readiness; update policy and procedure manual annually; Order annual uniforms and supplies; oversee the James Caswell Memorial Cheerleading Scholarship Fund and Varsity Club Scholarship Awards. Yearly recruitment and organization of official spring and fall tryouts. Attend all home and away Football contests; home Men’s Basketball; post-season tournaments / Bowl games with additional Olympic Sport support when requested. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum two years intercollegiate cheerleading or 3-5 years of coaching experience as a high school, all-start or college coach. Job Specific Qualifications
  • Must have a strong record of safety and technique supervision.
  • AACCA certification required prior to Aug 1 with CPR /First Aid/ AED training a plus.
  • Candidates must be team-oriented, creative, motivational, organized, able to work under pressure, have a flexible schedule.
  • Applicants should possess exceptional interpersonal skills, be team-oriented and have the ability to work closely with a diverse group of students and administrators.
Responsibilities
Dual Position: Spirit Program Coordinator & Head Cheer Coach (as outlined in “Job Summary Description”) Teach, train, support and mentor.
  • Plan, supervise and originate summer camp and national championship trips; travel and performance readiness. Choreograph and design national championship materials while itemizing all video and required verification materials.
  • Forecast and originate Spirit Program operational budget; order uniforms and supplies; coordinate travel; public appearance schedules; organize University appearances in conjunction with Alumni Office, Homecoming, Cheer & Dance Day, Orange v White / Hoops & Scoops, Home to the Dome events and more; all other community and charity events.
  • Actively recruit throughout the year; organize official spring and fall tryouts; appoint selection of teams; oversee fundraising efforts in conjunction with Cuse Athletics Fund and IMG /Learfield initiatives.
  • Oversee the procurement of the James Caswell Memorial Cheerleading Scholarship Fund and Varsity Club Cheer Scholarship Awards.
