UMA transforms the lives of students of every age and background across the State of Maine and beyond through access to high-quality distance and on-site education, excellence in student support, civic engagement, and professional and liberal arts programs.

UMA is the third largest public university in Maine. In addition to its main campus in the state’s capital, UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and distance learning, UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.

This faculty position may require teaching both day and evening on our campus in Augusta. The successful candidate may also be expected to teach via one or more of the distance education modalities utilized by the University including online instruction.

UMA's Bachelor of Architecture program is Maine's only professional architecture program and the only public B.Arch in northern New England. The program is built upon our thirty-year history of providing architectural education in Maine. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of this new chapter of architectural education in Maine. These appointments are for the Academic Year 2021-22 and may continue into future years.

The Position: The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applicants for part-time adjunct instructors in the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) Program to teach one or more of the below listed courses:

  • ARC306 Architectural Design: Steel Studio

ARC 241 and 306 must be taught live at our campus in Augusta. To share current course content, you will find links to current syllabi for these courses below.

UMA's Architectural Mission: Architecture through Engagement

Our mission expresses who we are: SMALL...INTEGRATED...HANDS-ON. This fundamentally means we are about people: our students, our faculty, and our community partners. We teach architecture through engagement, educating, and empowering students to explore, investigate, and analyze the built environment. Engagement brings students into active contact with each other, their coursework, and our community partners.

The University of Maine at Augusta's Architecture program is rooted in three essential elements. The first is the mission to engage community; this is where our work takes place. The second is the desire to work in collaboration, within the department, the university, and with community partners; this is what allows us to affect positive change. And third is seen in our curriculum, based in the idea of being "grounded in real"; these are the tools we use to affect our collective build environment. For additional information about UMA's B.Arch, please visit our website at http://www.uma.edu/barch.
