Position Summary

The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services is a nationally recognized department preparing student affairs and counseling professionals for a changing and increasingly complex world. The department seeks highly qualified candidates to fill a position as Clinical Assistant Professor, to begin as early as June 1, 2022 and not later than August 1, 2022. This is a full-time, 9-month position with an expected assigned time of 50% instruction and 50% administration/service in the program areas of college student affairs administration/student affairs leadership. There is a possibility of summer employment, contingent on enrollment and funding.

Clinical faculty members have a strong academic background, professional experience in student affairs and/or academic affairs administration, and a commitment to the development of graduate students in professional preparation programs in student affairs. Clinical faculty members are typically renewed annually, and the clinical faculty line allows promotions in rank. As with all faculty positions in the department, clinical faculty members teach, advise students, and engage in service to the department, the University, and the profession.

The successful candidate will coordinate administration and teach courses across the three graduate programs: Ed.D. in Student Affairs Leadership ( SAL – part-time hybrid program), M.Ed. in College Student Affairs Administration ( CSAA -M – traditional delivery, primarily full-time students), and Ph.D. in Education/College Student Affairs Administration ( CSAA -D – traditional delivery, both full and part-time students), which together enroll approximately 100 students. This position is designed for a student affairs scholar-practitioner whose interests and skills include teaching, student advising and support, and program administration. This position supports the CSAA / SAL programs through instruction, advising and mentoring, and administration/service, which includes both overall coordination of administration for the three programs and primary administration for the SAL Ed.D.

Salary is competitive and includes an excellent benefit package.

Instruction
  • Teach courses in the M.Ed., Ed.D., and Ph.D. programs (typically two courses per semester); specific assignments based on areas of expertise and program needs.
  • Serve as advisor to M.Ed. students and chair/member of doctoral committees (contingent on approval of Graduate Faculty status).
  • Work in conjunction with program faculty on curriculum development, policy development and review, and general student support.
Administration/Service
1. Coordinate overall academic administration for the three degree programs. This may include, but is not limited to, marketing and recruitment, admissions, orientation, retention, communication and social media, course schedules, student handbooks, comprehensive/ preliminary examinations, assessment activities and reports, and supervision of program assistants (students on graduate assistantships).
  • Other program faculty assist and share responsibility for carrying out the functions listed above; the clinical assistant professor provides leadership, direction, coordination, and oversight of administrative functions and serves as a central point of contact for CSAA / SAL .
  • Marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts to include a focus on students of color and those from other minoritized groups.
  • Development, implementation, and coordination of a social media plan to market, showcase, and support the academic programs.
  • Development of relationships with campus partners related to graduate assistantship opportunities for CSAA -M and CSAA -D students.
2. For the SAL program, serve as program coordinator, providing vision and direction for the program, representing the program to various stakeholders, and serving as the primary point of contact for students.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the summer week-long residency, with the support of a graduate assistant.
  • Identify and support part-time instructors teaching in the program.
  • Coordinate preliminary exams, including providing preparation sessions, coordinating faculty in the development of questions, administering the exams, and scheduling oral defenses.
  • Provide oversight for Ed.D. program internships, including monitoring identification and approval of sites and supervisors, instruction, and administration.
  • Act as liaison with the Griffin campus for program needs.
3. Participate in department, College, and University committees, based on interests and needs.
