Colorado State University (CSU) is a land-grant institution classified with the Carnegie doctoral very high research universities and is the flagship university of the Colorado State University System. Colorado State’s rankings include its recognition as a top tier university in U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of “America’s Best Colleges and Universities,” as well as Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine’s ranking as one of the top public universities in the United States for educational quality and affordability. CSU enrolls approximately 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is located an hour north of Denver. Fort Collins is a culturally vibrant and progressive community that is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers easy access to numerous outdoor opportunities.

The Career Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs with strong and broad-reaching relationships and responsibilities throughout campus, including the academic colleges. Divided into three units (Career Education; Employer Relations; and Operations), the Career Center not only provides career-related advising and services to students, it fills many additional functions critical to the success of the University and students, including, but not limited to, campus-wide career fair coordination and job/internship postings, employer relations, institutional career outcome reporting, and student employee development. The Career Center is responsible to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and leverages those relationships to help students investigate the many available professional opportunities with special consideration for finding paths that meet their skills, goals, values, and unique identities. In addition, the Career Center proudly embraces and upholds the CSU Principles of Community: inclusion, integrity, respect, service, and social justice.

The director of employer relations leads the Career Center’s strategy for connecting CSU students with prospective employers and driving student success, as well as fosters collaborative working relationships with all employer-facing units on campus to promote a positive and seamless recruiting experience for employers. This is accomplished through the facilitation of a robust recruiting partners program, overseeing campus-wide student employee development initiatives, facilitating an engaged employer advisory board, using data and employment trends to develop strategic relationships, career fairs, and employer-related events, among many other priorities. The director achieves this work with a collaborative and communicative style, centering equity and inclusion in their work and philosophy, being student-centered, and displaying humility and authenticity. This position supervises a large and productive team of 17 (nine (9) professional staff and approximately eight (8) student staff) and reports to the executive director of career services. The director is also a member of the Career Center’s leadership team, playing a critical role in the development of the Career Center’s broader goals, strategy, and resource allocation.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and seven (7) or more years of relevant experience with extensive public contact and successful relationship development. The successful candidate will have a strong personal and professional commitment to equity and inclusion as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources, and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.

Other preferred qualifications include: a master’s degree; a minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising full-time staff; knowledge of and experience with career services and its role in the broader context of the mission and goals of student success; knowledge of and experience with career development and student development; experience with and demonstrated history of successfully generating revenue through public/private partnerships; experience with budget projections, oversight, and reporting; demonstrated strategic planning skills and a history of setting and achieving goals; and knowledge of and experience implementing CRM systems.
