Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Automotive and Collision Repair will direct the day-to-day management of the automotive service and collision repair programs while taking steps to ensure the program complies with the college’s policies and procedures, and with SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) standards and principles.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate with the Academic and Workforce Dean in strategic and academic cycle planning at the college, division, program, advisory committee and course levels, including development and maintenance of internships, apprenticeships and experiential learning relationships with automotive and collision repair businesses designed to augment the academic programs.
  • Develop the master schedule to maximize utilization of classrooms and laboratories for the safe, effective and efficient delivery of instruction for high school dual credit, regular college credit and continuing professional development to industry professionals.
  • Direct day to day management and evaluation of the programs, faculty, and staff, facilities and resources to accomplish safe and effective program delivery and coordination of division activities and projects.
  • Develop and maintain industry partnerships and alliances for the benefit of the programs and students. Provide support for active industry advisory committees as required by the THECB and ASE. Regularly meet off-site with industry employers as needed to promote internships, apprenticeships, and post-graduation job placement.
  • Develop a plan to achieve ASE Education Foundation accreditation for the Automotive Service and Collision Repair programs, oversee the preparation of the application for accreditation and on-site evaluation, and ensure that all accreditation standards are met on an ongoing basis. Maintain required records in accordance with the ASE Education Foundation. Ensure that program practices comply with college policy and comply with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board standards.
  • Assist the Academic Dean in the on-going, systematic evaluation of the division, program, curriculum, learning resources, and student learning outcomes including production and preservation of program/student records.
  • Facilitate management and planning of program budget. Work with the Dean to make budget requests and recommendations. Ensure program remains within identified budgets. Assist the Academic and Workforce Dean in the fiscal planning and management of the program and its resources.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained as required for warranties and safe operation and optimal learning outcomes. Maintain accurate equipment and tool inventories and prepare supplemental budget requests and justification as needed.
  • Ensure that faculty and staff meet professional development standards as specified by ASE.
  • Maintain accurate and complete program records including curriculum and resource evaluation and development, systematic evaluation, course evaluation, student evaluation, and accreditation documents.
  • Assist the Dean in the operation of faculty search committees and recommendation of full-time faculty, associate faculty, and staff hires.
  • Foster positive human relations and teamwork among faculty, staff, and students and across all programs and college services.
  • Manage appropriate student admission, advisement, progression, graduation, certification, and licensing processes for the program.
  • Attend and participate in professional development activities and participate in service to the college, including college graduation.

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Occasional physical effort required.

Requirements

Associate degree in Automotive Services or Collision repair from a regionally accredited institution is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Three (3) years of teaching experience preferred.

Five (5) years of work experience as an automotive service or collision repair technician. Master technician level is preferred.

Supervisory experience is highly preferred.
