Purpose of Job

Pittsburgh Technical College is looking for an experienced social media manager with a proven track record of results to develop and execute our social platforms with content, campaigns, and other engagement techniques that are strategic, engaging, creative – and measurable. We envision this role as an ear-to-the-ground, roving reporter to enlighten, inform, delight, and support current and prospective students and their families to explore all that PTC has to offer, from opportunities to outcomes. The incumbent will have substantial experience in planning, organizing resources, establishing priorities, and launching creative and imaginative social campaigns, including contests and other strategies that drive user engagement. In addition, demonstrated knowledge of using social media to represent the brand voice of an education institution, company, or organization, including day-to-day community management is required.

Education Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION :
Minimum associate degree in related field with at least two years demonstrated progressive experience in social media, professional communications, or other relevant experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION :
Degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field or at least two years demonstrated progressive experience in social media, professional communications, or other relevant experience.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years of professional communications experience; a minimum of two years immersed in social media, preferably in a higher education environment; will consider internships or other relevant experience.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
  • Lead the day-to-day management of PTC’s social media channels for prospective students and their families, alumni, advancement office, and the Office of the President. Platforms include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Regularly track and report on online activity data with strategies and tactics to drive better engagement, based on your analysis and insights. Sprout Social and Tableau experience preferred.
  • Maintain the content calendar, tracking project status to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with marketing team members, agency partners, and academic and administrative departments to button up the details on the stories you’ll identify and tell in a compelling way.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to demonstrate social media outcomes and ROI using analytics tools beyond likes, follows, and shares.
  • Ability to gather analytical data, compile information, and prepare reports for presentation to executive boards.
  • Reflect diverse demographics and develop inclusive social strategy, content, and creativity
  • Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Strong interview skills and can create timely and newsworthy communications
  • Understand how different demographic groups, including prospective students of all ages and their families, use social media.

Work Schedule

WORK SCHEDULE :
Typical hours are Monday through Friday – 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. (Attendance at special events such as graduation, orientation, open house, the first day of class, and other events may occur in the evening or on weekends).

This position is responsible for visibility on campus to engage students, faculty and staff to help promote PTC’s events, and other activities through various social media channels.

TRAVEL :
As needed to support external events.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
  • Equipment used includes desktop or laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
