Specialist 1, Financial Aid (Part-Time)

Job Summary:
This is a 25 hour per week non-exempt position. This position manages the eligibility determination and awarding processes, oversees the data entry and, ensures compliance with financial aid rules and regulations, resolves customer service issues. Handle sensitive or confidential records.

Essential Functions:
1. Coordinate the transmission and subsequent processing of federal grant and loan data files between the College and the Common Origination and Data (COD) system and the Central Processing System (CPS).
2. Direct Loan (DL) and Pell rejects review and resolution.
3. Analyze and adjust accounts to ensure the Federal Pell Grant Program account balances internally and externally with the U.S. Department of Education. Ensure all Federal Pell Grant discrepancies between institutions are resolved and accurately reports the resolution to the U.S. Department of Education on a monthly basis.
4. Maintain a scheduler with necessary automated process (Automic)
5. Responsible for reconciliation of the Direct Loan Programs (Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and PLUS)
6. Resolves over awards and overpayments and contacts students to resolve discrepancies.
7. Schedule communication requests and notifications, e.g., missing document request, award letter, loan disbursement notification, and return of tittle IV fund notification.
8. Assists with verification during peak processing times.

Accountabilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of financial aid on behalf of students.

Job Specifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred and minimum 1-year relevant work experience, or Associate’s Degree required with minimum 3 years relevant work experience. Minimum 2 years’ experience in financial aid or other heavily regulated industry experience desired. Banner experience preferred. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and high level of confidence required. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.

Part time staff are not employed directly by Lake Michigan College with a few exceptions based on MSPERS retirement program. All others are employed thru EDUStaff, LLC.
