Duties

Responsible to prepare and deliver Dance coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

  1. Teach core and elective courses as assigned by the Department Chair.
  • Prepare and teach courses to a diverse student population based on course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair.
  • Contribute to college governance and service:
    • Dance department meetings
    • Periodic student evaluation
    • College and department committees and service
    • Dance department recruitment & retention
  • Research/Practice
    • Engage in personal research, such as creative practice, scholarship, research or scholarship of teaching
    • Maintain an active professional profile
    • Develop/implement holistic pedagogical practices that respect principles of anatomy in relation to dancer longevity and dancer wellbeing
    • Understand instructional technology, and as needed, participate in training and development
    • Foster a positive, caring, equitable learning environment where difference and pluralism are valued, and all students have opportunities to be successful learners

     

    Travel
    No travel required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master of Fine Arts in Dance and 10 ACADEMIC years' (90 months) demonstrated experience teaching ballet at undergraduate level
    • Demonstrated early career success as a dance artist
    • Demonstrated potential to develop national standing within the profession
    • Demonstrated effective collaborative, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated commitment to the student experience
    • Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff
