Department of Graphic Communication at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks applications for a full-time (academic year), tenure-track Assistant Professor with preferred specializations in some of the following areas, digital printing technologies, digital publishing, data management, marketing, emerging technologies, project management, and flexible packaging. The starting date for the position is September 12, 2022. The teaching load averages 12 units per quarter with correspondingly reasonable research/scholarship and service expectations. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The selected candidate will be responsible for creative lecture and laboratory teaching approaches that include current and emerging technologies to enhance student education and for participating in scholarly practices such as peer-reviewed research, conference presentations, and grant development that lead to publication or its equivalent. The selected candidate will also be expected to pursue a systematic program of professional development, curricular improvement, and to participate in service activities including committee service, student advising, and building industry relationships. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Graphic Communication, Media, Communication, Business, Management, Computer Science, Data Analysis, or a closely related field.


Documented excellence in teaching, research, and/or industrial experience, in three or more of the following areas:

  • Digital printing technologies
  • Flexible packaging design, development, and production
  • Design and workflow for digital printing, cross-media communication and publishing
  • Emerging media and technologies for marketing using variable data and disruptive technologies
  • Project management, product development and management for digital and printed media
  • Data management, data integration for cross-media communication, publishing, and marketing
  • Information management, digital content strategy for digital media management and marketing
  • Strategic planning for graphic communication applications
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A Ph.D. or a terminal degree in related fields, industry experience, and a track record of committed research focus in related areas are preferred.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Graphic Communication Department is the leading four-year university program in graphic communication education in the U.S. The GrC program is the home of over 30,000 square feet of laboratories that are equipped with industrial-standard software and state-of-the-art equipment. The program provides students with hands-on experience, and an updated curriculum in both digital and printed products for communication. The program emphasizes the connection between creativity, technology, and business aspects of communication. The department will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2022.
