Position Overview:

Under supervision of the Manager of the Project Management Office in the Office of Information Technology, the IT Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals. This position works closely with both functional and technical areas coordinating the project phases from beginning to end. This position has a focus on new construction where the types of projects could include: selection of a new or replacement business application, on-premise software and software-as-a-service implementations, improvement or automation of a business process and technology integration for campus construction projects.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Coordinate and monitor technical projects or programs from initiation through delivery. Gather required data from end-users to evaluate objectives, goals, and scope to create technical specifications. Serve as liaisons between technical and non-technical departments in order to ensure that all targets and requirements are met. Ensure technical projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Keep leadership informed of key issues that may impact project completion, budget, or other results. Supports and delivers on assigned PMO projects with requirements developed through the collaborative effort of cross-functional teams and clients. Job functions include:
  • Working with functional areas to identify and document requirements for projects.
  • Facilitating the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Defining project tasks and resource requirements.
  • Developing full scale project plans.
  • Assembling and coordinating the project staff.
  • Managing the project budget.
  • Managing project resource allocation.
  • Planning and scheduling project timelines.
  • Tracking project deliverables through the use of project management tools.
  • Providing direction and support to the project team.
  • Ensuring quality assurance of the project deliverable.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Presenting reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions.
  • Implementing and managing project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs.
  • Providing project evaluations with a breakdown and assessment of results.
  • Communicates and fosters professional relationships with clients and departments through interaction with customers and development teams to gather and define requirements.
  • Creates and maintains documentation including diagrams, operational and support procedures. Publishes client-facing support documents to improve user experience. Collaborates with Technology Resource Center trainers and support staff to create online training modules and deliver scheduled and just-in -time application training opportunities.
  • Researches and communicates new features of application(s) and unused tool functionality to drive the platform expansion and adoption, which includes developing road maps, guides, standards and procedures.
  • Interacts with end users, service desk, team members and stakeholders in gathering information to define and document required changes to the environment. Assists IT management in preparing business and use cases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications / Experience Required:

Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

5+ years of experience with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment.

Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.

Qualifications / Experience Preferred:

An understanding of technology as it applies to use in the higher education environment.

Project Management Professional Certification is preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Must possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills, along with strong analytical, organizational, and collaboration skill. Ability to work independently, or with specialized groups, while maintaining a courteous attitude when dealing with students, faculty, and staff. Ability and willingness to complete several concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, multitasking environment. Ability to set objectives, mange project timelines, and see projects to completion. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Solid presentation skills. Ability to explain technical terms in everyday language. Ability to work directly with senior level executives. Must have the ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, be attentive to detail, and understand implications for the academic context. Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills; planning and organizational skills; decision-making skills; and communication skills. This individual must be able to influence and lead a variety of different level skills sets in accomplishing the projects' objectives. Must be able to delegate; be a team leader and player; demonstrate negotiation skills as well as managing conflict among individuals sharing the same resources; and be proficient in project management software. Solid communication and presentation skills with ability to work directly with senior level business & IT executives. Proven leadership, teamwork, and client management experience. Experience with project management software. Adheres to and complies with UCO’s shared values and the Office of Information Technology’s Code of Ethics. This position is on-call 24x7x365 and requires the successful candidate to have high-speed internet access to their residence, and maintain a smart phone on which to receive telephone calls, email and SMS messages from servers and authorized OIT personnel.
