The University of Southern Maine’s (USM) School of Education and Human Development Special Education Department seeks a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor with expertise in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). USM offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Special Education for individuals seeking to earn certification to teach students with disabilities or enhance their skills to support students with various learning needs. In addition, this position will serve as the Maine State PBIS Coordinator, working directly with Maine Department of Education (MDOE) staff as well as Maine schools to provide consultation and support to implement PBIS in Maine schools.

The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in special education, coordinate clinical experiences, advise graduate and undergraduate students, actively pursue a scholarly agenda, and provide service to the program, university, community, and profession.

Qualifications:
  • An earned a doctorate in special education, or a related field, by time of employment (candidates who are ABD at the time of application will be considered)
  • Expertise with PBIS through development of programming, consultation, research, and/or peer-reviewed scholarship including understanding and experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) and/or Multi-Tiered Systems of Student Support (MTSS)
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience teaching, consulting, or leading in a PK-12 public school setting.
