Context of the Job:

The Event Technician II schedules and sets up and, as needed, operates audio-visual equipment for classrooms and campus events; adjusts, maintains, and repairs the AV equipment used in assigned areas. The Event Technician II supervises set-up crew when handling AV equipment giving training as needed. This position works closely with clients and event managers to assure a positive customer experience.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Maintains inventory for conference services audio-visual equipment at all sites. Recommends upgrades as necessary and consults on all purchases of such equipment.
  • Works with conference staff to determine pricing for AV time and equipment for marketing with meeting spaces.
  • Meets with clients/event managers to determine AV needs for upcoming events. Works closely with client to assure compatibility of equipment and computers/software.
  • Sets up and operates AV equipment in meeting spaces anywhere as needed on campus. This includes attendance at rehearsals and performances/meetings. Occasionally supervises set up staff who assist with the set up and/or operation of AV equipment.
  • Operates and maintains audio studio in Clayton Hall.
  • Orders, utilizes, and returns AV equipment not available in scheduled meeting spaces from other campus locations or off-campus vendors.
  • Works with UD Media Services and/or outside vendors in the development and execution of hybrid and virtual events.


Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with vocational/technical training in theater technology and minimum 2 years' experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in the operation of AV equipment including a wide range of projectors, computerized systems, video recording and production equipment, audio recording and production equipment (mixers/microphones/amplifiers/ speakers/etc.), and all subsidiary cables, splicers, and such as required.
  • Experience in all forms of hybrid and virtual meeting technology is critical.
  • The ability to quickly troubleshoot equipment failures during use and communicate effectively with clients of diverse backgrounds is required.
  • Knowledge of University campus and policies/procedures a plus.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
