Position Description: FJHM Central Development and Donor Relations

Summary of Responsibilities:The Associate Director will play an integral role in the stewardship of the Johns Hopkins Medicine donor base (46,000 strong) and participate in the creation and execution of high-level stewardship and engagement strategies for major and principal-level donors. The Associate Director will also support and participate in private sector fundraising for general institutional needs at Johns Hopkins Medicine, including the JHH Department of Nursing and other non-departmental/divisional priorities such as COVID-19 and the Friends of Medicine. Through this work, the Associate Director will be responsible for increasing revenue and strengthening the pipeline of major gift prospects for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Director to execute the vision and strategy for FJHM’s comprehensive stewardship and donor relations efforts to attract and retain donors, strengthen relationships with alumni, express gratitude, show the impact of gifts, and increase giving.
  • Become familiar with overall FJHM donor and alumni bases, the Institution’s body of work, and Johns Hopkins Medicine milestones/events; provide strategic recommendations for how they impact donor engagement.
  • Collaborate with major gift officers in designated departments to develop stewardship strategies and produce high-quality deliverables such as impact reports, videos, and written or online pieces.
  • Oversee all aspects of the leadership acknowledgment process, which produces 800 unique leadership acknowledgement leaders annually.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of stewardship experiences such as Live the Mission and the annual Dean’s Symposium.
  • Promote collaboration across FJHM and the University by initiating and participating in meetings and committees focused on donor relations and pipeline building.
  • Maintain knowledge of donor relations industry best practices and routinely suggest new, fresh, creative ways to express gratitude.
  • Partner with Director to create strategies that will support FJHM central fundraising priorities and meet/exceed annual goals; focus on ways to grow the pipeline of major and planned giving prospects and donors to the Institution.
  • Spearhead communication strategies related to the central fundraising priorities including recommendation of donor stories for Hopkins print and online publications and social media.
  • Maintain a small, active portfolio for the personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors FJHM central priorities; set annual fundraising metrics to track efforts.
  • Make thank you phone calls to donors who contribute to FJHM central priorities.

  • Position Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related experience required. Experience in donor relations and/or front-line fundraising in a complex institutional advancement environment preferred. The ideal candidate will be willing to travel and work evening events on occasion. They will possess a strong desire to associate with Johns Hopkins Medicine and to champion the institutional mission.

    Desired foundational competencies include: superior written and oral communication skills, ability to articulate and translate the institutional mission for all audiences, ability to work in a multi-divisional environment, high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, collaborative, diplomatic.
