This position is accountable for leading the Magnet School Finance team in managing the financial and accounting controls and policies, annual budgeting, federal and state grant reporting, cash management and financial modeling. Further, this position is responsible for providing leadership and coaching to the Magnet School Finance team.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Manages Magnet School Finance/Accounting staff and deliverables to ensure accuracy and timeliness while assisting with the prioritization of duties.
  • Ensure valid purchase requests make their way through the accounts payable process while providing the necessary approvals along the way.
  • Monitors the Magnet School cash balances and assesses future needs.
  • Regularly reviews Magnet School trial balances to monitor financial position as it relates to the budget and or current forecasts.
  • Assists with the preparation and compilation of the Magnet School annual budget and facilitates the finalization of various grant applications.
  • Calculates the cost of personnel to be allocated to the Goodwin Magnets schools using inputs from various departments, making updates based upon known staffing changes throughout the year.
  • Monitors all grant activity to ensure compliance with all stated objectives and restrictions.
  • Regularly adjust and modifies the annual forecast based upon current trends and known variances.
  • Assists LEARN, the Magnet School’s Regional Educational Service Center, with all monitoring and reporting needs pertaining to Magnet School Assistance Program reporting.
  • Assembles and files the annual Budget Narrative Report (ED 614) for Magnet School operating grant.
  • Assembles and files the annual Statement of Expenditures Report (ED141) for all Magnet School operating grants.
  • Work with LEARN to ensure local tuition is collected and any outstanding balances are properly investigated.
  • Meets monthly with Magnet School principals to review YTD actual expenditures against the budget and communicate the impact of any and all revisions proposed by management.
  • Constantly monitors and assesses current internal control environment across the Magnet School operations and, where necessary, produces any new or revised procedures to support the overall goal of accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Trains and coaches staff throughout their daily work, as deemed necessary.
  • Prepares annual staff evaluations and provides formal performance goals.
  • Coordinates and assists with the preparation of all Magnet School related annual audit schedules for the Goodwin University fiscal year audit.
  • Prepare year-end work papers and supporting schedules in preparation for the University’s annual independent audit.
  • Regularly provides support to the Director of Magnet Schools Business Operations with various projects.
  • Periodically acts as back up to the Director of Magnet Schools Business Operations in the purchasing process.
  • Regularly assists with ad hoc work surrounding Magnet School and Goodwin University management needs.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and ensures all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill :
  • Sound knowledge of compliance regulations for organizations working within the education or not-for-profit sectors
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative style and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work effectively within stringent time constraints
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience :
  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting/Finance, CPA preferred
  • At least 4 years working knowledge in accounting or finance with at least 1 year of supervisory experience
