Emporia State University’s ACEN accredited Department of Nursing in Emporia, KS is accepting applications for the position of Department Chair. The department chair appointment will begin when a qualified applicant with credentials appropriate for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor in nursing is hired.

Position Summary:

The Chair of the Department of Nursing is a critical member of the leadership team within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and is the leader of the Department of Nursing. Chair duties include:

  • Continuous, active, daily, and direct responsibility and authority for the nursing program
  • Overseeing the daily governing organization, nursing education unit, and nursing program matters such as, but not limited to, personnel matters, student matters, curricular matters, and resources matters
  • Reviewing, evaluating, and promoting academic programs within the department
  • Contributing to ongoing assessment and successful accreditation of the nursing programs and the University
  • Managing department budget
  • Managing the development and growth of the newly launched online MSN program
  • Recruitment of additional nursing faculty to meet current instructional needs and launch the recently approved online RN to BSN program.
  • Other duties as assigned

General Qualifications:

We seek a dynamic leader to build upon the success of our award winning nursing programs. A Master’s degree in Nursing and a Doctoral degree from a professionally accredited university is required. Qualified candidates must hold an unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of Kansas. Qualified candidates may be considered for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. A record of published scholarship in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to rank and a demonstrated commitment to an active research agenda is necessary. Demonstrated leadership skills appropriate for an academic program chair are required.

Candidates must exhibit excellent teaching and be prepared to contribute through service to the Department of Nursing, Emporia State University, and the community. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion and support of the Emporia State University Diversity and Inclusion Statements. The Department of Nursing has a robust Bachelor of Science program and a Master of Science program, so qualified candidates should be comfortable teaching online and face to face in the classroom to both undergraduate and graduate-level students.

Compensation:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Emporia State University offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Emporia State University is a comprehensive university with an enrollment of approximately 5,800. The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is the largest of ESU’s four colleges (comprised of 11 academic departments) and functions as the heart and soul of the university.
