JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under general supervision, the Associate Vice President for International Relations and the Brennan Center works in concert with faculty and administrators at Niagara University to lead the University's wide range of global partnerships and programs, and to ensure that these initiatives serve to enhance NU's global outreach and institutional development goals. The AVP Supervises advising and counseling international students, scholars, and their dependents on issues related to immigration, cultural, social, and academic concerns. The Brennan Center provides academic, cultural, and comprehensive English language support for international students. The Brennan Center works with community leaders to address challenges of refugees and other new arrivals to the region and provides innovative experiences and opportunities for those preparing to be teachers of English as a second language so as to build interdisciplinary connections between teaching and learning that will augment services to international students and families.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Creating and executing policy, mission, and objectives for international engagement, and for increasing Niagara's global image.

 

  • Developing strategic direction for international partnerships and projects, including but not limited to student exchange and study abroad initiatives, Brennan Center initiatives, and partnerships for service and scholarship.

 

  • Establishing and managing policies and procedures to ensure that federal, state, accreditation, international, and university requirements for existing and newly developed international partnerships and programs are met.

 

  • Establishing pathways for credentials to include certificates of study (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), credentials for educators (partnership models), and short-term micro-credentials to meet workforce needs

 

  • Supervising budgets and personnel in IR/BC and performing all other duties associated with being the Functional Officer for IR/BC.

 

  • Serve as a member of the President's Cabinet.

 

  • Preparing an annual report on IR.

 

  • Establish partnerships with providers, community agencies, and colleges servicing international populations.

 

  • Oversee SEVIS operations.

 

  • Oversee Student support and engagement

 

  • Maintain a visible profile with campus constituencies; partner collaboratively to enhance communication on and off-campus and anticipate emerging issues

 

  • Considered Essential Personnel whose physical presence is required on campus and must also be prepared to address those functions remotely (from off-campus) as needed when operations are restricted or the campus is closed.

 

  • Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.




REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Able to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and effectively communicate with others.

 

  • Able to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis.

 

  • A thorough understanding and commitment to Catholic and Vincentian values; and a willingness to support Niagara University's Catholic and Vincentian mission.



QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

 

  • Master's degree is required; Doctorate preferred

 

  • A minimum of five years of academic administration experience, including international initiatives such as recruitment and retention of international students.

 

  • Extensive international higher education experience.

 

  • A valid New York State driver's license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor vehicle. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle in Canada.
